There are existing catalog which are assigned to inventory, cost, order etc but not purchasing.

for purchasing there is another called purchasing.

I want to test scenarios for inventory and Procurement and how can I make it happen for my testing.

If i create items and assigned inventory catalog, its fine, but for purchasing, i cant use same inventory items for purchasing.

Am i correct or any suggestion please

All the catalogs and categories originate from the task 'Manage Functional Area Catalogs' and that's the place where we assign functional areas such as Purchasing,Inventory, Order Management, Cost Management, etc. to these catalogs and these functional areas can be assigned to the catalogs only once during the time of implementation and cannot be changed later.

Now, when we create items, as per the item attributes we assign to the item under 'specifications' tab, the catalogs and default categories automatically gets assigned to the item in the 'Categories' tab. For example, if we make 'Purchased' and 'Purchasable' flags as 'Yes' while creating an item then the 'Purchasing catalog' automatically gets assigned. If we make 'Inventory Item', 'Stocked' and 'Transaction Enabled' flags as 'Yes' while creating an item then the 'Inventory catalog' automatically gets assigned to the item.
